Asia Cup Finals

India defeated South Korea 7-2, winning the 7th Asia Cup men’s hockey tournament in Chennai Sunday night.

In the victory which is being hailed as one of the side-effects of “Chak De India”,the Indian players displayed better performance than the Doha Asian Games champion South Korea in the final. Before the semi- final, India also defeated South Korea 3-2 in the heated match in Pool A.

India vs Srilanka Day1

This has been a truncated day of cricket where rain and bad light took centrestage more than anything else. We lost 4 hours and 15 minutes of cricket thanks to the wet conditions. Finally, we got some play after Mahela decided to bat first on a dry surface. This has been a good session for the Indians after they picked up the vital wicket of Sangakkara. Warnapura and Mahela are looking good and they would love to get good scores under their belt right at the start of the series. We’ll find all that out when we come half an hour before the actual start time tomorrow to make up for the lost overs

Win for Congress

India’s Congress-Party led coalition government has won a confidence vote, paving the way for it to go ahead with a civilian nuclear deal with the United States. But as Anjana Pasricha reports from New Delhi, the vote was interrupted by allegations that government supporters had bribed lawmakers to win the vote.

Sultan the Warrior

The much-awaited Rajinikanth starring animated movie ‘Sultan -The Warrior’ featuring Rajinikanth will hit movie screens in April 2009. April is considered to be an auspicious month for Rajinikanth for all his films released in April have gone on to become big hits.

After scouting in Vietnam for selecting the backdrops to shoot the movie, the film crew was back in Chennai recently. Rajinikanth is now expected to join the crew to commence work in a Motion Capture Animation Studio in Hyderabad to shoot for the movie. It would be later animated.

Kuselan

Rajinikanth’s P.Vasu directed Kuselan release has been confirmed for the first week of August (1 or 8th), depending on the completion of post production work.

Some patchwork shoot of the film is happening in Chennai, while the graphics is yet to be completed. A grand ‘Ganamela’ by G.V Prakash the music director of the film and the singers who sang in the film will be held on July 19 in Chennai. This is a promotional event to further popularize the film’s music.

Meanwhile Pyramid Saimira the distributors of the film are planning to launch a game based on Kuselan theme. As of now the film will be releasing big in Tamil and Telugu in 1000 screens

Moon samples reveal Water secrets

A new analysis of some very old rocks is reshaping our understanding of the moon. Scientists used modern techniques to search for tiny traces of hydrogen in a set of lunar sand samples taken by Apollo astronauts in the ’70s. The systems used in the study were able to break down the rocks 10 times more effectively than any past techniques

Mars Rover Technology Helps Earth Explorers

NASA has developed “toylike” autonomous robots to carry out scientific surveys of treacherous areas of the Arctic and Antarctic. The SnoMotes robots are designed to operate in terrain deemed too dangerous for scientists. The devices can record data including barometric pressure, temperature and relative humidity that will help scientists improve climate models

Obama Calls for Cyberterror Czar

The presidential campaign is turning a focus to cyberterrorism. Democrat Barack Obama has unveiled plans for a “national cyber advisor” position as well as updated standards for protecting computer-based infrastructures if he is elected. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, has spoken of the need for increased cyber security in recent weeks as well. Already this year, the current administration has increased its efforts to protect America from Internet-based attacks, with plans for a $30 billion effort to expand federal network monitoring over the next seven years
